(Washington, DC) – The United States Senate is poised for a final vote on a compromise to prevent the largest tax hike in American history. The bill, which enjoys broad, bipartisan support, maintains current tax rates for the next two years and restricts the damage from the resurrected 'death tax.

"No compromise is ever perfect, but overall this bill is a commonsense solution that allows us to avoid impending tax hikes that would kill jobs and hurt American families who already face a challenging economy," said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "Log Cabin Republicans particularly appreciate that while the discriminatory death tax returns, the damage will be limited under this agreement. As Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said, this package demonstrates a different approach in Washington after the elections, in which Congress respects the right of Americans to keep the 'money that is rightfully theirs, to spend it and invest it as they please.' Log Cabin Republicans stand for individual liberty and limited government, and therefore encourage Congress to move quickly to pass this important measure to keep oppressive taxes at bay."
