Left is Wrong to Attack New Jersey Republicans After "It Gets Better" Video

(Washington, DC) - New Jersey Representatives Leonard Lance, Frank LoBiondo and Jon Runyan stepped out on a limb to be the first Republicans to participate in the anti-bullying "It Gets Better" campaign, joining their peers in the state's congressional delegation in sending an important message to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth - and now the left is attacking them for it.

"It is deeply frustrating to see liberal activists attacking Republican Members of Congress for stepping forward to support gay youth. Like the celebrities, sports teams and other public figures who have participated in the 'It Gets Better' campaign, these Republican leaders have a powerful voice, and the New Jersey delegation's video sends the critical message that regardless of our political affiliation, harassment in our schools is a serious problem," said Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director R. Clarke Cooper. "The Center for American Progress, which until recently was led by former Clinton White House Chief of Staff John Podesta, has led the attacks on Representatives Lance, LoBiondo, and Runyan as antigay, despite Lance and LoBiondo's leadership in supporting the Employment Nondiscrimination Act. It seems as though liberals care more about the chance to score political points by taking potshots at Republicans than they care about capitalizing on a chance to really make things better for our youth."

"Log Cabin Republicans are dedicated to work with Republicans on addressing issues important to the gay community, including anti-bullying legislation, and we have seen tremendous progress. This should be a moment to thank these congressmen and use their support to strengthen the coalition to pass the Safe Schools Improvement Act. For the sake of these kids, the gay community can't afford to turn away allies in the fight for freedom for all."

From the "It Gets Better" video:

Rep. Leonard Lance: "Respect and acceptance will grow day by day."

Rep. Jon Runyan: "The things that make us different are the things that make our country strong."

Rep. Frank LoBiondo: "We can't completely eliminate bullying, but there are actions we can take to make things better now."

Rep. Frank LoBiondo: "Even though growing up is tough..."

Rep. Jon Runyan: "...it really does get better."
